Update on Ralf Schumacher's Injury

Sunday June 4th, 2000                                Ralf  Schumacher  suffers from a 7cm gash on his left calf, Williams  said today. The German was injured  when  he  hit  the  barrier  before Ste Devote during today's  race,  retiring  from fourth.
"I don't  actually  know where this injury came from," Schumacher  said. "After  crashing  into the  barrier  I  jumped  out  and did not look at the damaged car and therefore did  not realize that my leg was hurt.
"I  went  off  the  circuit  when  I  came to the corner,  Hakkinen  was  coming  out  of the pits and when I went on  the  left  side of the track to overtake him the line was dirty  and  I didn't manage to brake sufficiently."
Schumacher  was  taken  to  the Princess Grace Hospital  in  Monte  Carlo,  where  the  cut  was stitched. It  is  still  unknown,  however,  if  his injury   is   serious    enough   to   deny  him  of participating in the Canadian Grand Prix in  two weeks time.
"I  hope  he  recovers from this accident soon," BMW Motorsport  Director,  Dr Mario Theissen,
said.  "It's a shame,  because  he  started  very well and moved up to 4th and was in the running for a  podium place."
