J.Trulli Loses Fourth Place
.
The FIA announced late on Sunday that Jarno Trulli had been stripped of fourth place in the US Grand Prix.  Race stewards excluded the Italian from fourth place because the skid block on the bottom of his Jordan had  worn  away  below  the legal limit. It was Trulli's first points finish in six races .
The new top six now reads :  M Hakkinen  , M Schumacher ,
D Coulthard  , E Irvine  , N Heidfeld  , J Alesi

Ralf said  "Over the entire weekend we didn't manage to get the car's set up right.  After  my  pit  stop the handling became even  worse.  Juan  Pablo  and  myself  were  on  different strategies as  we  were  not  sure  what the tyre wear would be. It became clear  Juan  Pablo  had  the  better  strategy.  The spin  was my mistake,  I  lost  the  rear  under  braking for the corner. I had many great weekends and for me this was not so great."

morning warm-up, and had his best  qualifying  time removed as  a result.
The  new  top  six  now  reads :  M Schumacher , R Schumacher, J Montoya , M Hakkinen , R Barrichello , D Coulthard.

US  GP - Qualifying  Press  Conference
.
Question:  Ralf.  Where  do  you feel your speed is coming from this  weekend?  Is  it  straight  line?
Ralf Schumacher:  Obviously.  Always straight line, isn't it?
Question: Not necessarily.
Ralf Schumacher: We have just a few corners here.  I mean, we  haven't  been  really slow recently, have we?  So  you expect us somewhere. We might be  a bit lucky due  to  the  fact  that  the two   team - mates  of  these  two  guys  maybe  didn't  get  the optimum  amount of their car. Apart from that,  we  have  heard, as  I said before in the press conference, a different weekend. We  started  a  little  bit on the tyre side, but we hope that will become better as the  track and the  weather, it's improving for tomorrow.
Question:   But it is all due to the fact that the temperatures are fairly low, isn't it?
Ralf Schumacher:   Part  of  it is due to that fact, and partly, as well,  on low - grip circuits we have always struggled a bit, and that has become better, quite a lot. But it's still not  as  good as it should be,  maybe.
Question:  To  follow - up, does it make family get - togethers a little tougher?
Michael Schumacher: No, I wouldn't say.
Ralf Schumacher: We  get  together  every  two  weeks anyway, don't  we?
Question:  Michael,  you  said  you  had  reached your maximum, but if one of these guys had  beaten  that, would  you have gone out and found a new maximum?
Ralf Schumacher: Impossible. Time was over.
Michael Schumacher:   Yeah,  true,  time  was  over.  I  mean,  I wouldn't have gone. I told the  team  before  I  didn't  see  any necessity,  exactly. And  that's  it. I  mean,  no.
Question:  Can  you  feel  the difference between a lap that's a tenth of a second apart from another lap when you're out there, how closely can you judge when you're out of  the  course what you're turning in terms of times?
Michael Schumacher:   I   mean,   I   guess   all   of us, we're so sensitive  that  we  probably  should  talk  within  thousands   or hundreds,  at  least.
Ralf Schumacher: Not bad, huh?
Mika Hakkinen: Yeah, not bad.
Question:  I  think I saw some tyre smoke in one of your laps, is that  right? And  if  it  was,  was  that  a  tyre problem or driver problem?
Ralf Schumacher:  Can't  resist  from  smoking,  that's  my  main problem. No, it was simply the last lap  when  I  had the mistake, when I made that mistake, I simply locked the front  wheel.
Question:  And  Ralf - is there a problem for tomorrow with the tyres?
Ralf Schumacher:  So  long  ago  I  forgot.  No,  I know the tire. This  could  be  a  problem,  but  we  sort of  on both companies this  weekend.  It's  a  good thing that microphone, isn't it? It's amazing what you can do with it. So I think we all face a similar problem.

US  GP - QUALIFYING
.
Ralf said  "On  my  last lap I was braking too late into turn four so  that  is  the  reason  I  didn't improve my time. We should be satisfied with our positions as this is where we  expected to be. We  have  struggled  all  weekend  to find the right balance and I  still believe it is going to be difficult tomorrow, but last year we improved from day to day and it would help us if it was a bit warmer. It would be nice to have a place on the  podium."

US  GP - FRIDAY FREE PRACTICE
.

Ralf said  "It  is  forecast  to be sunnier and warmer tomorrow, and  I  think  this  should  help  us  with  our  tyres  to  be more competitive. Today  we  didn't  have  specific problems with the car,it was just difficult to get a balance, with understeer in the infield  section.  We've  had  Fridays  like this before and then turned it all around for  qualifying. I'm  hopeful we can do this again."

"We had some problems finding the right set - up today. The car was oversteering at the entrance to the corners and didn't have enough grip in the infield. It  seems  the low temperatures don't suite   our   tyres   very   well.  Even  though we did some useful
homework  for  qualifying,  completing  42 laps, I think we have already made our tyre  choice for the race."

US GP - PREVIEW
.
Ralf said  "We  should  be quite well prepared for Indianapolis and  even  though  Michelin  have not been there with Formula 1 before  I  am  sure  they  will  have  done  their  homework. The
organisers  have done a good job with  the circuit, but last year everybody   was  excited  about  the  high  speed  corner  from the oval and I found the exciting part of this was  the fact you don't have a run off area, only a wall!  The infield is very tight and  a  challenge  to  drive. There were a lot of spectators last year, but unfortunately  they are  a long way from the track so as  a  driver  you  don't  feel  the  atmosphere that  much. "

Ralf Schumacher will race at US GP
.
Ralf told German television DSF on Tuesday "It's very difficult to  weigh  up  how  safe  or  unsafe  it  all  is. Bernie Ecclestone ( F1 chief )  and  Max Mosley ( FIA president )  have  taken this decision  and  I  respect that. So I'll drive. There's no question about  that  at  all."

Italian GP - Race Press Conference
.
Question:  Ralf,  you  got  fastest  lap  but  it  seemed  your car wasn't  very consistent today. Was  that the case?
Ralf Schumacher:  No  I  must  say  we  didn't  get the right the whole weekend basically. We had  a  few  problems  with  tyres but the team did a fantastic job in  finishing first and third and I think that's a great achievement and so big thanks to the team.
Question:   Ralf after Rubens  overtook  you,  you  went  across the top of the chicane: did you then  ease  up  and  let  him take the position?
Ralf Schumacher:  The  position  belonged  to  him  anyway and  I had big  problems  at  that  moment,  my  rear  tyres  wouldn't behave  any  more  so  I  defended to a point where I thought it was reasonable and that  was it.
Question:  What   about   the   battle   with   your   brother - he overtook   you.
Ralf Schumacher:   It  happens. That's  what  we  are  here for, sometimes he gets overtaken and sometimes I  get  overtaken. It was a fair fight, obviously he  had  a  lighter  car. I was one of the heaviest anyway in  the  front  and from the beginning I had a very big oversteer, which then turned into blisters  and  I  got used to the blisters and was able to drive at a  reasonable pace.
Question: To all drivers, what did you feel about the agreement between you not taking  place about the opening lap and how do you feel about going to America?
Juan Pablo Montoya:  We  tried  to  have  an  agreement and we didn't do it. I think that actually helped because everybody was very reasonable about the start, we had a very  clean start, and going  to  America  I  don't  see  really a problem. If the race is going to go on it will go on, there's not much we can do  about it now.
Rubens Barrichello:   It's  bad when you have an agreement and just  one  guy  doesn't  want to do it but that's pretty much life. At  the  end  of  the  day  there were drivers told by their team managers they couldn't do it  as  well.  I  don't  think they were thinking - they were very material just 'work,  work,  work' and
couldn't just stop to think that  there  was  something  going  on behind us. This weekend has been  very  dark, not only for what happened in the US but what happened to  Zanardi  yesterday I
couldn't stop thinking about him to be honest. So for  a  moment we had an agreement  because  it  was  only  fair,  you  have  an agreement to brake  200 metres  before  the  corners where we saw  last  year  a  hell of a problem and luckily I think everyone had the patience to do it. I love to go to  America,  we just have to see if we're safe or not. People are not even travelings there yet so we  have  to  see  but I love to go there the race is great and the atmosphere is great.
Ralf Schumacher:  I've  already made a couple of comments and I don't want to comment any more thank you.

Ralf said  "I  did  not find the best set-up for my car the whole weekend.  But  I  would  like  to thank the team, being first and third  here  is  a  very  strong effort. Because of the bad things
that  have  happened  I  find  it  difficult  to  celebrate so hope everyone  understands  the  reasons  for  my  reaction  to  what is  going  on."

I  didn't  find  the  perfect  set  up  today  and  suffered  both understeer and oversteer.  Also, it didn't help that on one of my quick  laps  I  had  to  lift  because  of  a  yellow flag.  So, I'm starting  from  the second row alongside my brother and I think the  race  could  be  pretty exciting."

The FIA president, Mosley gives US GP green light
.

Max Mosley, confided in  Eurosport yesterday. He stated, "We have  to  keep on  going  as if nothing happened. It's  the   best  answer  to   terrorism.  We   have  to  make   no  cencessions  to terrorism.  No  one in motor sports has suggested cancelling the events. "He continued, "Anyone  who can help the victims of the American disaster should  do so. Likewise, anyone who can help apprehend  the  perpetrators. The duty  of  the  rest of us is to carry on as normal."

Mosley said "The reality of the situation is that people are now in two categories, those who can do  something  for the victims or  help  find  the perpetrators,  and  the  rest  of us who can't, It  is  our  job  to get on with things at the present time and not give in to terrorists. If Wall Street can open within a few days of  such  a tragedy then I think we can continue our business. I don't believe we would should be  intimidated by  these  people. It is the right thing to do to continue with the American race."

He  said  "It  is  a bad joke intending to go to the United States and  racing  there. I  do  not  think  it  is  safe  and  I, for sure, will not be taking my family and friends. We are just 22 drivers but   we  also  have  to  think   about  the  200,000   spectators. Bernie  Ecclestone  is recommending us to race there and I will be anxious to see if he turns up. If  it  was down to me I would not have been here (in Italy). I  don't think there should be big public  events - not  just  in  sport,  but   also   things  like   the Oktoberfest (Munich's beer festival) while they  do  not  know who was  responsible for the attacks."

Question:   Ralf ,  you   looked  incredibly   frustrated   during qualifying at one point; what  were  you  saying to the team?
Ralf Schumacher:  I   can't   really   remember.  No,  we   were discussing what to do and it wasn't an  easy  decision  to  take, actually. At a certain point, we still had  that  problem with the
intermediate tyre and we had to go on slicks  quite  early while some Bridgestone  runners  still stayed on intermediates. At the end of the day, it didn't work too bad. It's always under these conditions that  you  need  to  have a  bit  confidence  that  the car's  doing  well  and you need to have good luck. Then you're there.
Question: As the circuit was drying out, how uniform was it?
Ralf Schumacher: It became fairly even. On the main line on the straight  it  was  already  dry with just some corners, especially turn three and four it was still a bit wet.

It  is  always  under  these conditions  that  you  need  a  bit  of  confidence that the car is going  well,  and  you  need  to  have  a  clean and good lap.
