| Ralf: No conflict with Juan Paplo Montoya
|
| . |
| Ralf Schumacher
has denied any conflict between him and his team-mate Juan Pablo
Montoya despite a battle for prominence within the team.
He said "We have absolutely no conflict, We understand
each other really well on the track and off it.
We drive in a two - car strategy, neither has priority, We have
two relatively similar drivers who are
in line to win - we proved that this year."

| Montoya Rules Out Warmer Relations
with Ralf |
| . |
| Juan Pablo Montoya says he
has no desire to get on better with teammate Ralf Schumacher
next season. He said "The truth is that I am not
at all interested in improving my relationship with Ralf, For
me he is my teammate on a professional
level and that's fine. He has his life, I have mine
and that's as far as it goes." |

| Ralf Visited the WilliamsF1
Factory |
| . |
| Ralf visited the WilliamsF1
factory on the 18th October 2001 as a guest of
Allianz. He toured the factory, learned more about
some of the safety features
built into his FW23 and signed autographs
for some of the 400 + factory
staff. He also took time out to meet 90 Allianz
Cornhill guests and answer some questions for them as well
as conduct interviews for the media. |
| Ralf said "Drivers
always want more safety. But this
also means getting into the
habit of driving somewhat
more carefully again." |

Ralf said "Unfortunately
the stop and go penalty has cost me third place,
but I have to accept the penalty as this is the rule, although
my advantage was only a couple of tenths of a second. After
the first pit stop it seemed the speed limiter
on Rubens' Ferrari got stuck so this is
why I had to swerve at the end of the pit lane to avoid hitting
him. All in all I am looking back on a season which was better
than expected, therefore, I would like to thank the
whole team. I am confident we are going to make another step
forward in 2002."

| Question: Ralf
you got in there with a good third place at the end.
Is that the best which you could achieve today? |
| Ralf Schumacher: It
looked like it. We tried very hard, all my laps were
very good, I always improved whenever I
went out. We had a few problems yesterday
so we couldn't do a lot in the second session
beside just put new tyres on, so we had to work quite
hard to get the car right and I think it's a good car for the race.
|
| Question: It's
noticeable that you did a lot of work scrubbing in the Michelin.
Is that a worry? Do you need to get them well
run in? |
| Ralf Schumacher: There
are certain ways of using our tyre and we decided to scrub them
for the race whereas other people didn't
like that. We will see tomorrow. |
| Question: Ralf,
are you surprised by Michelin's
first time performance here? |
| Ralf Schumacher: There
were many circuits where they've
been for the first time this year and we were always relatively
strong in qualifying so I'm not really surprised by that, no. |
| Question: What
about your own performance; the first
and third sectors seemed to be better
than the middle sector on your quick lap. Did something go
wrong in the middle sector? |
Ralf Schumacher: Not
really. I was lucky to get a clear
lap anyway with all the confusion Jos and David
had. I took the benefit just before I went
into the lap out of it and improved again by one and a half tenths.
Here on this circuit it's marginal. Our car obviously doesn't seem
to be as strong through the first sector as the Ferrari is.
If you look at it, you see it visually as well
where we lose time and that's
what we have to work on. Here in Suzuka, if you're not getting
it 100 per cent right in all
three sectors you obviously lose out in some. I think it was
very close in between us today and I think
it's a good position for the team and we'll see how it is tomorrow.
|
| Question: But
Juan Pablo was 0.7s of a second behind
your brother, can you challenge the Ferrari tomorrow?
|
| Ralf Schumacher: Doesn't
look like it does it? To be realistic, no. They
are so strong, they were playing games
the whole weekend basically. He didn't even
need to go out on new tyres this morning, he stayed
on one set and they knew what they were
able to do. I think it's going to be a difficult race for
us. |

| Japanese GP - QUALIFYING |
| . |
| Ralf said "We had
a few problems yesterday and that meant we were playing
catch up a little bit with set up. We were still improving
it as the session progressed. It looks like we
have a very tough battle to beat Ferrari.
I think they have been just playing with us all
weekend until now." |
"Qualifying went
pretty well. We have been working
really hard after we had some problems yesterday. It
is nice for the team to have both of us so high on the grid. Michael
was driving in his own world, he was unbeatable. We
have a very good car
for the race, and quite a good chance
of podium finishes. It would be nice to finish ahead
of Rubens, although we are only fighting for third
place in the Championship." |

| Japanese GP - PREVIEW |
| |
Ralf said "Suzuka
is my favourite circuit on the race calendar and it
is one of the most difficult.
It is not easy to be quick here as you have
to know the track very well. It is also very
positive that the safety has improved for
this year. The only downside is it is very difficult to overtake
here, and there is only one place where it is possible.
For me it is nice to go back to Japan where I
won the Formula Nippon Championship in
1996 and I am hoping for a better result for us than in the US." |

| Ralf Schumacher join the Barcelona
Test |
| . |
|
The session started
on a wet track following the overnight rain
in Barcelona, but eventually dried up throughout the day.
Ralf Schumacher arrived
at the track for the first time today. Ralf
has a few problems with his
FW23 at about 17h 20, as he had
already set the second fastest
time of the time. Antonio Pizzonia
hands over testing duties to Ralf Schumacher on Thursday
but will rejoin Marc Gene on Friday and Saturday.
