with eyeglasses |
| |
| New Outfit, new targets: Ralf
Schumacher first time presented itself with eyeglasses at Essen
Motorshow. |
| He said that at
press conferance "We will fight
for WM title with Ferrari." Also
he said for Montoya " With Williams there is no
number one. Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet
hit themselves. That will not occur to
us." |

| Patrick Head does not happy with Ralf
test work |
| |
| BMW Williams technical
director Patrick Head seems to have
some complaints against Ralf Schumacher, especially
when it comes to testing. Head explained Ralf
Schumacher's impatience with several issues
in comparison to teammate Juan Pablo Montoya,
giving a plausible explanation as to why Montoya's performances
gained momentum as the season progressed.
|
| Head said "When
testing, he hasn't got much
patience to check through datasheets with the engineers,
to study the next day's programs or to
discuss things he doesn't like in the car,”
He added " Juan does all
that and thus has acquired
a better understanding for the car." |
| BMW motorsport boss Gerhard
Berger told F1 Racing magazine. He said "You cannot
make your personality - you're born with it, Juan Pablo was
definitely born with a good one. But being a personality
in f1 isn't enough. If you have success
and are a personality as well, that's the mix you need. Juan
proved very early on that he doesn't respect other drivers, and
in the latter half of the season, he has certainly
proven himself. What he did at Suzuka, where he
qualified ahead of Ralf on his first visit to a
very difficult track, was proof
to me that he has what it takes to get the job done. All he needs
now is the right engineers." |

| Ralf has now said
that he does not believe it
is necessary to impose team orders |
| . |
| Ralf said "You
have to say that in respect of the championship that one
team concentrating on one person is
a much better thing. But that is down to
team policy. I believe the quicker driver should be number
one. It is not just a question of number one and number two, but
sometimes it is helpful within the team to have a clear situation.
At least at Ferrari it has proven to be good, but for us it
hasn't been necessary yet. However, if one driver
isn't able to win the championship
and the other is, then the other should
help." He added "If you look
at what I actually said it's nothing
to do with the things written. The question was do
you think it would be better if Williams had team orders
and worked with one car like Ferrari and I said its better to
have two guys providing they don't catch each other which
can always happen. That was all I said. The next question was what
would you do about that ? I said it's then down to the team if it
would appear to help the situation, but we don't have that
problem yet." |

| BMW Motorsport director Berger,
Our drivers are equal in strength and equipment
|
| . |
| Gerhard Berger has told
German newspaper Motorsport Aktuell that team orders next
year between Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya are unnecessary.
|
| Berger said "We have
two drivers who are similarly strong and they will get the same
material. For some teams having a number one is right, but we have
no need in our team. Our target is it to leave them
to duel for long enough until there is no need
for team orders, and there are no disadvantages." |

| Frank Williams loves Juan more than
me, says Ralf |
| . |
|
Ralf Schumacher told Germany's
Motorsport Aktuell newspaper. Ralf said "I don't
know exactly why, but Frank and Montoya are closer.
Frank loves Juan. But that hasn't detracted
from the atmosphere on the team. Montoya was new to us last season.
Perhaps that's why he is enjoying more attention."
Ralf added "The rivalry between Juan
and me has not yet resulted in
a collision. We have the same goal in front
of us. We want to bring the team forward.
The defeats at the start of the season had a positive
effect on Juan. He realised that life in Formula One isn't as
easy as he thought it would be."

| Theissen believes
that the team will not favour
a certain driver, |
| . |
| BMW motorsport director
Mario Theissen said "I don't believe in the approach of having
just one strong driver and one second class driver. We certainly
have to make sure that next year they work like this
year as well. I cannot complain about anything. There
was much hype about their rivalry,
but in fact if you look at how they drove
and what they really said, it
was absolutely okay. We didn't have one single situation which
was difficult or detrimental to the
team's success. We might have more of these situations
next year, and we certainly have to prepare and
to talk to the drivers, have a clear strategy how to deal with
it, and an agreed one. I'm quite optimistic because
above all they are professionals, and they know
there are two goals - certainly their personal success,
but also the team's success, and in
the end you can only succeed
if you act according to these targets."

| Ralf talks about team orders again
|
| . |
|
|
| Ralf Schumacher has
once again called on his team to issue team
orders in time for next year or risk losing any chance
of winning the championship, either of them. According
to recent reports Ralf said that Williams
were going to land up looking like fools if himself
and his teammate Juan Pablo Montoya took one another
off the track as they both tried to go for the victory. And
it's going to be hard enough for either himself or Montoya to
challenge Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, without having
to then fight amongst themselves.
He said "I
think Montoya and I are rather equivalent. Williams is well-known
for the fact that they always have two strong
drivers. That is not bad tactics.
But if it was my choice, I would naturally
rather be the only strong driver in the team." "I
don't think Juan Pablo is the best among ourselves,
winning a race is completely different from being on top for
the entire season. In reality Montoya and I are at the same
level. Williams outfit has always been known as the team with two
good drivers and I think it is the right strategy. Naturally
I would prefer to be the team's number one
driver." |

| Ralf surprised by Raikkonen's signing |
| . |
|
Ralf Schumacher
has claimed that they should have gone for Raikkonen’s
Sauber team - mate Nick Heidfeld
instead.
|
| Ralf admitted that he
too was surprised by the team's decision and he said
"For me it is a mystery why
McLaren did not take up the
option on Heidfeld. Perhaps they were simply of the
opinion that Raikkonen is better.
But if one looks at the times and the results, that is not
what is indicated." |

| Ralf talks about Alex Zanardi |
| . |
Ralf Schumacher
was team - mate to Alex Zanardi during the Italian’s
stint at the Williams team in 1999, and said he built up a
healthy relationship with the 35 year old both on and off
the track. In mid September Zanardi lost both legs as a result
of a massive accident in Germany during a CART race.
He said "It's so tragic. Alex woke up without legs. Thank
God prosthesis gives one the chance of further movement. Naturally
I think such a misfortune can occur
to any one of us, at any time. I think the fear
is always there. People must decide for themselves, which
risks to take. But I think it's marvelous that he is
so upbeat. He was always a completely cheery and open type.
I liked him a lot as a teammate.”
