Ralf said "The glasses can help me to beat Michael"
.
Ralf Schumacher has revealed that he will wear glasses when he races in next year's Formula One world championship for BMW-powered Williams team.
Ralf tried the glasses last week and is hoping they will help him in  his  bid  to  beat  his world champion brother Michael to the championship in 2002.
He said "My eyesight really is still fine, But I tried driving with glasses last week and it seems to be much better."
He added "It  just allows me to see things a little better and in Formula One  that  is  essential. The  thing now is to try them in testing  and  get  used  to  them  for  the  season. Hopefully the glasses can help me close the gap on Michael a little bit so I can win  more races. But Michael is definitely favourite for the title again."
Ralf Schumacher, who was in a car crash last week on a German autobahn, will test his new spectacles in pre - season  Formula 1 testing next year.

Drivers cleared by Australian inquest
.
The two drivers unwittingly involved in the death of a spectator marshal   at   this  year's  Australian  GP  have  been  fornmally cleared  of  any  wrongdoing  by  a  Melbourne  court.
A  lap  five  collision  between  Jacques  Villeneuve  and   Ralf Schumacher  resulted in a wheel from the Canadian's car being launched  through a gap in the trackside safety fence, where it hit 52  yer old Graham Beveridge, killing him instantly.
The  inquest  into  Beveridge's  death  began  earlier  this week with represenatives of all parties claiming that  it resulted from a freak occurence rather than any  premeditated  or  negligent action. The gap  in  the  fence  through which the wheel passed was   designed   purely  to  allow  either  marshals   or   drivers passage  to  and from the circuit, and was barely big enough to accomodate  a  wheel,  let  alone  one  travelling  at  high,  and wayward,  velocity.
Although  the  FIA accepted that the incident was no more than could be expected in racing conditions, it  took  until Thursday for the inquest to reach the same conclusion in absolving either driver of blame. Villeneuve  and Schumacher were unhurt in the accident, which  saw  both  end  their  races  in the gravel trap.

Ralf Schumacher in a crash on a German motorway
.

Ralf Schumacher  was involved in a motorway crash in Cologne, Germany on his  way to visit his father and his brother Michael. Ralf  driver  is  said  to  have  been  in  collision  with a line of standing traffic in his new BMW.
One  woman  was  slightly  injured  in  the  accident in Cologne.

Ralf had been at a motor show in Essen as part of his work for the  company  whose  Grand Prix  cars  he  drives.
The accident  happened  when  he drove into a line of standing traffic  with  his  new  BMW 7 - series,  which  he  insisted  on driving  despite  the  fact  that  the  company   supplied  him  a chauffeur  for  the  trip  home.

BMW spokesman  Guido Stalmann  said: "Ralf Schumacher  had an accident  on the A3.  There  were just dents on the front of his vehicle. Ralf Schumacher was  able  to continue the journey  with  the   damaged  car  after  the  police  had  taken  details of  the  accident."
Local traffic  officers  said the damage to cars will cost about $15,000.
Ralf  then  continued  on  his way and later met up with brother Michael  and  some  friends  in a restaurant in Kerpen. The two Schumacher  stars  of  the  Formula One world then decided to take  part  in  the  Winter - Cup series of the Kerpen Kart Club, Michae l as  driver  and  Ralf  as  his  mechanic. "It  turned out to be a fun evening," Michael commented, despite  spinning and finishing  in  13th  and  last  place.
Ralf Schumacher  was  seen  wearing  glasses in the morning at the motor show in Essen.  He  was  quoted  as saying: "So far I have avoided wearing them. But now it seems to be about time."
His spokesman  Heiner Buchinger added: "The glasses are very weak. Ralf can still see very well. Only in certain situation you actually  realise  (you might need glasses)."  The police  report states  that  when  Ralf  got out of the car he was not wearing glasses, and that  he claimed that by the time he saw the jam it was too late to stop in time.

Australian Inquest Begins
.

The marshall was killed after being hit by a stray tyre that had been knocked free in a violent collision between Ralf Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve in the opening laps of the Australian Grand Prix.

A  coroner’s  inquest  into  the  death  of  a marshal at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix has opened in Melbourne.
The court heard that Graham Beveridge was struck in the chest by a wheel travelling at over 90mph.
Statements   from  Ralf  Schumacher  and  Jacques  Villeneuve were  heard.  Chief  steward  Garth  Wigston took the stand to say  that  no  single  individual  was  to  blame  for  the   tragic accident. Former F1 driver Tim Schenken, who was director of racing  operations  at the Albert Park circuit on the day of the track, said changes  had been made to the track in the wake of the accident.
The hearing continues on Tuesday.
